But when the jaw-dropping secret they both share is exposed, the same shovel that got them out of the dirt could very well bury them. Complicating the already stressful and stigmatized world of infertility, women who are unable to conceive because their eggs are no longer viable are forced to take their medical needs into their own hands only to discover that Canadian law criminalizes payment to anyone who wants to use an egg donor. But here’s the curveball-and it’s true for both films-there are a few lessons here about being true to oneself and using that self-awareness and honesty to empower others and better yourself. Celess and Tina play the game too well to be considered your average gold diggers. The Secret Society shines light on a hidden and unacknowledged women's health crisis. While they’re living the high life of mansions, fast cars, cash, clothes and money, the men attached to them are being played and eventually, well, you can guess what might happen.

The movie turns on its head when a secret about the women comes to light and leads to some really significant problems for them both. They’re from Philadelphia but have turned Atlanta into their home base. The film centers around two women-Celess and Tina (and eventually Si S-played by Adejah Parris-instead of Tina)-who are essentially scammers, moving from city to city hustling various men out of money, trips and cars. The book was also reviewed in other sources such as Noseweek and The Star.‘Nope’ is an extraordinary film about cinema and beasts (no spoilers) The twist may not be for everyone, but I must say, the story just keeps building and progressing so. In the Mail & Guardian Shaun De Waal wrote that "In The Secret Society, Brown explores the enigma of Rhodes, delving into his homosexuality more deeply than any work on him so far and showing how Rhodes's dreams of an expanded British empire were codified early in his career" In Business Day Richard Steyn wrote "by challenging the conventional wisdom about Rhodes, The Secret Society provides a stimulating and thought-provoking read" but criticised the lack of a bibliography and the small number of references Secret Society (2021) From the start, I knew this was a B-grade film, and I was about to give up 15-20 mins in on a story that's been told many times before - gold diggers, and then BAM The plot twist that will make your jaw drop. The book draws on diaries and letters and also investigates and supports suggestions Rhodes was gay. The book suggests the society continued to have influence in British and world affairs, citing the Rhodes Scholarship and alleged links between the society and Chatham House and alleged influence on the peace terms to end World War I and appeasement of Hitler.
