We use the notion of practice in two ways, in the instrumental sense of daily practices that all cultural beings engage in to navigate and survive their worlds, and also in a technical sense to describe the procedures and strategies devised for the purpose of maximizing students ’ learning outcomes.Have you ever heard of the word Paradigm? ( sounds like par-a-dime) It refers to something, not in the physical world but is a theory or structure of thinking like “science,” “math,” or the world being round.
Policies include those guidelines enacted at federal, state, district, and school levels that influence funding, resource allocation, accountability, and other key aspects of schooling. We envision our work as cutting across three interrelated domains: policies, practices, and people. Our goal is to assist practitioners, researchers, and policy makers in coalescing around culturally responsive, evidence-based interventions and strategic improvements in practice and policy to reduce inappropriate referrals to and placement in special education and to help close the achievement gap between culturally and linguistically diverse students and their peers. The cornerstone of our approach to addressing disproportionate representation is through the creation of culturally responsive educational systems. Later, I found out that the man was totally lost on his voyage and named the Indigenous Peoples he 'discovered ' Indios because he was looking for the country of India. While the need for greater diversity is highlighted for the school psychology subfield, it is noted that psychology in general is in need. This study contributes to all psychology fields in at least two ways: first in its presentation of innovative strategies that have the potential to enhance racial-ethnic diversity in psychology and second in its presentation of insights that may improve the mental and behavioral health services provided to diverse people.
Data were analyzed using the grounded theory constant comparative analysis approach. Participants responded to questions that inquired about their perspectives regarding (a) effective recruitment and retention strategies, (b) being the vast minority in school/work settings, and (c) counselor race-ethnicity. Data for this study were collected from 44 Black students and 3 Black faculty. To circumvent the disproportionately low number of persons of African descent in psychology, this study offers strategies for recruiting and retaining Black students and professionals.
